I picked this up today and Jerry (Carol's son) and I headed for the mountains as soon as he got out of work.
This photograph was taken about 45 minutes from our home at the top of one of the mountains in the Tonto National Forest. I pulled out my handy altimeter and found out that we were at 5100 feet in the photograph.
There was a beautiful breeze up there and the temperature was a perfect 74 degrees! Ah....heaven right in my backyard!
This is the view from the top of the mountain looking eastward. I am not sure what body of water that is down there but it was sure beautiful. The narrow one lane road that climbs to the top of this mountain was a bit scary and I was happy that I had a 4x4 underneath.
The road was so narrow that it would have been impossible to pass another car if we had come across one. It would have been a real trip to try and back down the mountain to where you could let another car pass.
I made sure that we got down the mountain before the daylight was gone. There was no way I wanted to navigate down that mountain road in the dark.
Wow! What excitement and beauty.
Here is the reason that this particular road was constructed up the side of this mountain. These objects were surrounded by a high voltage fence and there also appeared to be quite a large building behind that fence that might serve as housing.
The large white object was used for aviation traffic control and I suspect the watch tower was to be on the lookout for forest fires.
From this vantage point you could see for miles and miles in all directions.
As we drove home we were treated to another of Arizona's beautiful sunsets. The air was crisp and clear. There was not another person anywhere near us. The breeze was delightful and all in all made a very nice 3 hour jaunt.
I must admit, I am VERY happy to be living in Arizona. I am really looking forward to many adventures now that we have transportation to the roads less traveled.
